Past Simple: it is used for actions that are finished when time is given, when the time is asked about, actions concluded.
Affirmatives we add –ed or –d to the base form of the verb, regular verbs. For irregular verbs we use a list of them. Negatives forms we add did not or didn't before the base form. Questions we use did+subject before the base form.
Past continuous: it is used for interrupted past actions, used with no time expression and it can express and action, which began before that time and probably continued after it.
Affirmatives we use (subject+was/were+verb+ing). Negatives (subject+was/were+not+verb+ing). Questions (was/were+subject+verb+ing).
Past Perfect: past equivalent of the present perfect. It indicates which action finished before the other action.
Affirmatives we use (subject+had+past participle), negatives (subject+had+not+past participle) and questions (had+subject+past participle)
Past Perfect Continuous: it is not the most frequently used or taught anymore. It is used to talk about longer actions or situations in the past that had been going on continuously up to the past momento that we are thinking about.
