This unit talked about different types of evaluations. The main types of evaluations include: placement tests, diagnostic tests, progress tests, achievement tests, practice tests and proficiency tests. Placement tests and diagnostic tests can help a student be placed at the right level and help the teacher plan lessons. Proficiency exams are conducted by external organizations. One may want to take an external evaluation to know his current level of English, apply for university, apply for a job where they would need to speak English or for a job promotion.
I learned about different types of external tests which students may want to take. This would be helpful so I could find a practice test that compares with that type of examination. Furthermore, in some contexts a student may have different motivations or reasons for learning English. Thus, as an English teacher I need to keep this in mind when preparing lessons.
