In this module I have learned a lot about pronunciation and phonology. Stress, rhythm and intonation are all used constantly in English to infer different meanings or moods. A normal statement has a rise/fall intonation. Stressing different words in a sentence can change the meaning conveyed dramatically. Only syllables can be stressed, not consonants. It can be useful to acquire a working knowledge of the phonetic script. Methods for teaching pronunciation can include peer to peer dictation and having students copy the position of the teacher’s mouth.
