This unit is about teaching productive skills (i.e. speaking and writing). To strengthen student fluency, creative speaking skills must be honed. In contrast writing activities rely on acquired accuracy from the student. I have learned that writing is often the least practiced in the classroom due to so much time being in silence. As a result, accuracy based activities are oftentimes relegated to homework which is sometimes not completed. Fluency based activities are usually not teacher controlled since they are focused on the student’s experimentation and output. Fluency activities are usually reserved for the Activate phase of a lesson. By contrast, Accuracy based activities are teacher controlled activities that focus far more on the intricacies of the English language and seek to iron out problems in grammar,punctuation, spelling and penmanship.
