This unit included the different approaches to teaching English over the years. In the end, the Engage-Study-Activate strategy was discussed in depth. This was very helpful, as I have encountered different ELL teachers using various approaches. To meet the needs of students, it is helpful to be aware of various approaches, benefits and drawbacks of each approach.
The unit then focused on explaining the ESA approach. I really enjoyed learning this approach and want to try to incorporate it into teaching my students. One thing which I have learned from my own learning of a language and teaching ELL is that it is important that students apply what they learn to real life situations. There is a time to teach specific concepts, but those concepts need to generalize in the students use of English.
