A teacher has to be able to perform several different roles within a lesson and also be able to recognise when to perform each one. These include being an organizer for example in setting up activities, a manager to monitor the students, as well as prompter, assessor, model and more.
A good teacher should care more about the students than a particular teaching style or method and therefore needs to be able to adapt to different students, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. They are enthusiastic, sensitive, motivated and hopefully will produce a learning environment in which learners feel comfortable and excited to come back to.
Younger students may present more behavioural challenges but are also likely to be less nervous and more able to naturally absorb language than their adult counterparts. They may be less motivated since they are likely to be sent to classes rather than choosing of their own free will. Nonetheless, there are a spectrum of reasons why people may be motivated to learn the English language.
