Wequetonsing, Michigan TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
The unit covers the past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and the past perfect continuous tenses. I learned how these forms generally appear, for example that the “ed” or “d” endings and “did” and “did not” are associated with the past simple tense. However, more than just learning the various words associated with the tenses, the unit taught what these tenses accomplish and describe. For example, the past perfect describe actions in the past that took place before another action or other actions also in the past. For example, the sentence “The sasquatch chased me because I had invaded his forest” would be an example of a past perfect tense. The examples of excercises to use during the activate stage for teaching were very helpful. I would not have thought of having students create journal entries to create the different tenses. I think this approach would really personalize the lessons, giving them real world events in their own lives to show the practical application of the tenses. Great memory aids!
