In this unit qualities and characteristics of both good teachers and good learners have been discussed. various roles undertaken by a teacher have also been explained with brief examples. it is mentioned that learners are divided into adults and young learners mainly based on their age and young learners are further divided in three groups. learners are also categorized by their level of knowledge of a foreign language.
Personally, what i did learn was the importance of human factors in both teaching and learning of a foreign language. For example among all the qualities a good teacher should possess, those related to human nature such as kindness, patience and rapport contribute more to a successful teaching journey . on the other hand, although learners are divided by age and knowledge level of language, it is their qualities related to human nature such as motivation, fear of humiliation, lack of confidence and their overall perception of life that defines their success as an English learner rather than scientific elements such as their intelligence.
