I have always used the whiteboard and the overhead projector. The projector allows me to put worksheets on board which helps the students follow along. When I had the smartboard, the kids were motivated to learn as it was an interactive tool. I have used cassette recorders for students to hear books but I can see where it would help students hear their voices but phones nowadays will make that much easier.
