Unit 1 begins by identifying characteristics that make a good teacher. This is followed by listing the various roles the teacher performs in the classroom and activities the teacher might perform while acting in each of the roles. The Unit also provides guidance on when these roles may be appropriate. The unit then discusses the various characteristics of different students regarding age, life experience, and cultural differences. Unit 1 concludes by defining different levels of mastery that each student will present and progress through as their mastery of English grows.
