Unit 5 focused on how to manage a classroom. From this unit I learnt, the importance of gesture, class arrangement, and rapport in the classroom. Gestures can be a great tool for minimizing teacher talk time while allowing the teacher to communicate or facilitate learning. However inappropriate gestures can affect student confidence or the atmosphere of the class in a negative way. While there are some factors that will dictate the available options for arranging a class; the intended atmosphere or level of intimacy, the planned lesson and the age of the students will determine the best choice. Establishing rapport is also a very important part of setting the tone of the class and the how the students will interact with the lesson, each other and the teacher. These three factors can make a huge difference in a teacher's ability to manage the class and reach the intended learning goals.
