Unit 20, the final unit in this course, was about troubleshooting common problems that may arise in the classroom.
One of the first challenges a teacher will have is creating a rapport with the students, using fun activities the teacher should try and find out about the student's interest, aspirations with English and each student's English level so they can cater the class accordingly.
You may have classes where students are at different levels, pairing stronger students with weaker ones may help bridge the gap, using different materials or different tasks with the same material to teach to each students level and keep everyone engaged in the class.
If you are teaching to a large class breaking students off into pairs or groups can help increase student involvement and appointing group leaders within these groups can help with classroom management.
Some student may be reluctant in-class participation, creating an environment where the students feel safe and comfortable is important, pairwork and controlled practice can help in this also making sure the students are not fearful of making mistakes especially when practising for fluency.
