Unit 15 covered evaluating and testing and why they are important. There are 3 different ways you can assess a student’s language level, tutorials, evaluation by the student and test. Using tests, you can see the level of a student when they first arrive with a placement test, periodically give them a progress test to see what they have retained and what needs more work or a practice test to help prepare students for the external examinations. Evaluation by students can help you see if the students feel the work you are teaching is at there level and that they have an understanding of a subject before you move on. This unit also covered the different types of external exams the students may take at the end of their courses, such as Trinity’s ESOL which is geared towards non-English speakers starting a new life in the U.K or Cambridge’s KET an elementary exam.
