Grouping of student is very important. There is no time limit for the teacher to group class. It can be done as a whole class grouping or Individual grouping in which student work individually or can be grouped as pairwork or grouping there are both benefits and disadvantages of this grouping .The teacher need to consider the size of the class and the type of activity she need the student to do.
Classroom arrangement also is to be decided on space available , Types of table and chair , age of the student, Nationality and student personality. Students can be arranged in orderly rows ,this has been traditional form of seating for many years in most school. If the class is smaller circles and horseshoe method is used this method helps in pairwork and allows eye to eye contact with all the class members. separate table methods help in making the classroom more informal.
The teacher cannot avoid turning back towards the student while writing on the board but she can certainly reduce the time using overhead projector, prepare cards with vocabulary, writ on the board when students are engage in some other activity or at the beginning of the class. The teacher has also to make sure she uses students name in the class, gives more attention to the weaker student makes him feel comfortable by asking questions he can answer .
It is very important to keep teachers talk time minimal and encourage student talk time. A teacher can avoid her talk time by choosing correct language for explanation , avoid TEFL jargon, use gestures mime or pictures. , keep it simple.
Teacher need to give instructions using simple language, needs to be consistent ,use visual clues and needs to check instructions by asking questions and monitor them.
Teacher needs to establish rapport between the students and also between teacher and student. she can do this by making right seating arrangements, make sure the students know each other. at the beginning of the course have an ice breaking activity. Have plenty of pair work and group activity.be positive in everything you do. and give clear instruction and let student correct each other. Show personal interest in the student.
teacher has to maintain discipline in the class. The degree to which you will maintain discipline will largely depend on the age of the student, reason for learning ,class size, principle and atmosphere of the class and respect between the student.
Students faces some behavior problem due to family problem or low self esteem or peer pressure or lack of respect for teacher or student or class size. this can be prevented by the teacher by being punctual, well prepared, by being consistent and fair, by never loosing temper, making lessons interesting, and establishing rapport between students. And if it still arises then she needs to act immediately, Focus on the behavior and not the student, change classroom dynamic, keep calm.
