The twelfth chapter of this course focuses the attention on the productive skills of a language: the speaking and the writing ones. It gives a main distinction between accuracy and fluency activities that can occur in different stages of a typical ESA lesson, then it describes many speaking activities that can be introduced during the lesson. During a speaking activity, one of the main problems a teacher can encounter is the students’ reluctance to speak: the unit gives reasons and then solutions to this important issue, describing how to plan a successful creative speaking activity. Secondly, the chapter describes the main issues related to to the writing skill to take into consideration while giving feedbacks to the students: handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation.
