This unit primarily consisted of discussion on course books, and the reasoning behind whether a teacher should or should not use one. Additionally, it provided guidelines for creating your own course content, as well as a thorough overview of the pros and cons of using authentic texts to teach lessons.
While I do like the idea of using authentic texts, I have found from my own language learning endeavors that authentic texts should be carefully tailored to the group of students that you are teaching. They are meant to give students confidence to use English in real world settings, but if they are too advanced of a level for students they can be confusing and frustrating.
This unit also provided some excellent sources for creating study tools (crossword puzzles, other ideas), which I look forward to using when I become a teacher.
