Unit 5 was about classroom management. This involved sections on vocal control and body language, how to arrange a class in different groups and different classroom layouts to teach your class in the most effective way. This section also talked about creating a rapport with your students and discipline issues that might come up and how to handle them.
Here are some of my main takeaways from this unit; The teacher should always position themselves in the most effective way for what is been taught. If I am explaining or giving instructions to the whole class, I should be in front of the class, using certain gestures, maintaining eye contact and proper control of my voice to help portray my message. If the students are reading to themselves this may be a time to sit back and monitor from a distance, helping the students to become more self-reliant. The class may be divided into groups, to help increase student talk time. The teacher should walk from group to group making sure the task or activity is been completed correctly but should avoid interrupting as much as possible, to not hinder the students flow. Creating a good rapport with your students, and making sure everyone in the classroom feels confident, comfortable and involved. Arranging your classroom in a way that helps this, such as being aware of the relationships between students and there strengths and weaknesses.
