Unit 12 encompassed the two productive skills: [teaching of] speaking and writing. The unit began with speaking activities in the classroom making the distinction between accuracy and fluency and then describing controlled, guided and creative communication and how these can be used throughout the lesson. We were taught how to encourage student speaking/participation and given techniques to achieve this. We were also given a guideline for a creative speaking activity. The second part of the unit focused on how to teach writing skills. These run the gamut from penmanship/handwriting to spelling to punctuation and creative writing. We are given a typical creative writing activity that centered on creating cartoons. Finally, the use of games [and a list] was discussed. Although I knew the games on the list . . . I was hard pressed to come up with more of my own. I am old so I don't remember the games my really nice kids used to play. I will need to work on that since games are an integral part of any lesson. I hope I dont have too many typos. I am habing difficlulty seeing right now. All in all, a really good followup unit to the last chapter [receptive skills teaching]. Thank you!!
