There are several problems that are universal to almost all English teachers. Some of these are the intimidation of first lessons, using effective warm-up exercises, teaching classes with a variety of language levels, dealing with reluctant students, successfully using listening exercises, class size, and use of native language in class. A couple of rules to start out with are to avoid using the native language in class, and to emphasize that students can only use it when absolutely necessary. Warm-ups should be engaging and motivate the student to participate. For reluctant students, participation should be encouraged in a less stressful way, such as using pair work. Listening exercises can be improved by pre-teaching vocabulary and playing the audio many times. Large classes benefit from physical materials such as worksheets, as well as group leaders. In the case of teaching many levels in one class, the teacher should prepare additional tasks for the stronger students to complete when they finish ahead of time.
