Tests are usually a good tool to measure and keep track of a student's progress and what they learn. Some teachers can measure a student's progress by observing them with daily interaction and activities in class. However, some places such as schools require solid tests for documentation and records. There are many kinds of tests. A placement test to see which class level the learner will be in. A diagnostic test to determine what the students already know to prepare for the next class. A progress test to measure ongoing progress to see what lessons and materials they have retained and even to focus on what they have missed. An achievement test at the end of the course to see overall what they have learned from it. There are also other external examinations outside the schools which are motivations for some learners such as to study or work aboard. An internal test is for you and the students, it is to evaluate and give information on their progress and what they have learned and what they need to focus on next time.
