Unit 14 dealt with course books and lesson materials. Basically there are two types of materials; authentic materials, and created materials. Authentic materials includes real newspapers and menus which are not specifically designed for the ESL classroom, whilst created materials includes flashcards and crosswords specifically designed for the lesson. The unit provided many examples and resources for creating materials, this will prove extremely useful to new teachers. Another subject this unit tackled was the use of course books. By listing the advantages and disadvantages of using specific course books, teachers can more easily decide how to adapt their use of the course book to fit their lesson.
