In this unit, probably the most challenging grammar point in English language is explained: The conditionals. Due to its shift between various tenses in past, present and future and because such language structure is not present in many other languages, the whole concept of conditionals has an abstract nature for most students.As it is mentioned in unit content, the key to successful teaching of conditionals is to keep a slow pace, have patience and explain thoroughly.
Reporting speech is another point explained in this unit, which is a quite confusing subject as well,
as it also requires shifting of time expressions, verbs and pronouns. Same as conditionals, in order to teach reporting speech, a teacher must be patient and explain step by step with help of several practices and activities. Using a Boomerang ESA or a Patchwork ESA is recommended as they provide several activities in Activate phase.
