In Unit 3 I’ve learned a lot about many different theories, methods and techniques of teaching. The method that this unit stresses the most on is called ESA – Engage, Study, Activate. This approach introduced by Jeremy Harmer allows students to be motivated, be exposed to the language and have the opportunity to use it. ESA gives the teacher a great deal of flexibility in the classroom. Different structured lessons can be prepared using ESA method, for example: “Straight arrow” ESA lesson, “Boomerang” ESA lesson, “Patchwork” ESA lesson.
