Hart, Michigan TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
In this unit, pronunciation and phonology were the core concepts. It stressed the phonetic alphabet in order for us to teach the students how a word is pronounced. It complied consonants and vowels. It also covered intonation, which is essentially the variation in volume and pitch in a sentence. It explained how the rise/fall structure was generally used for statements, questioning and so forth. While the fall/rise structure was intended for the other person to respond, it is not simply an ending statement. It was taught me to become aware of where the stress is in a particular sentence and better explain to students how to identify these stresses. It does a good job in also providing and explaining the different sound joining that happens when we speak. Often times as native speakers, the way we speak is different then how it is supposed to be. An example of this is, sound dropping, where we essentially leave out a syllable sound. it gives several pointers of different techniques teachers can use for pronouncing individual sounds. It goes into depth with where these sounds are coming from as far as how your mouth moves.
