Created materials are good for supplementing and replacing materials from the coursebook. They also provide flexibility to target specific lessons. Authentic materials are raw materials that native English speaker would use such as a magazine, newspaper article, and etc. Authentic materials are generally more interesting and more motivating for students to use because it offers real use application. This unit also offers several ideas and resources for creating materials. There are advantages and disadvantages for using a coursebook. It would seem the consensus would be to use the coursebook as a base and develop your lesson around the coursebook by omitting and replacing certain lessons/materials from the book and supplementing, and adapting additional material into the course. This again teaches us that a good teacher is flexible and should cater to the needs of the students because not all students are the same.
