New language usually comes in the form of vocabulary, grammar, or language functions. In teaching each one, the instructor must be aware of what the students need to learn in order to use it effectively. However, my guess is that it's important to only teach students what they need to know at first, and not overwhelm them with information. For all new language, students must learn the meaning, use, word grammar, interaction, spelling, and pronunciation. It's also helpful for them to learn how it is spoken versus written. The activate stage will prove essential in helping students discover how to use new language properly.
