Unit one focused on the roles and classifications of teachers as well as the characteristics,classifications and potential motivation of learners.Though I had previous knowledge regarding the roles of teachers and the need for a teacher to be able to transition between various roles, I had very little knowledge of the categories of learners and the characteristics and behaviours associated with each group. I believe that what I have learnt in this unit will help me to be more aware of the predispositions and needs of my students. Awareness of my students' cultural and educational background will allow me to be a more effective teacher. For example; Young learners will likely require more motivation from the teacher than adult learners who are self motivated. However, adult learners may have stronger expectations due to previous experiences some of which may be negative. This understanding will allow me to evaluate each class and transition to the appropriate roles.
