I have learnt that there are four basic skills in any language. Receptive Skills: Reading and listening and Productive Skills: Speaking and writing. Receptive skills can be divided into two large ranging catagories. For a general purpose and for entertainment. It is important as teachers to remember it is not only the the eyes and ears of students but also their minds that we have to engage if they are to gain true understanding of a language. As teachers we have to carefully select texts and topics and tasks that are relative to our students and be aware of evening out our pre- teaching vocabulary and structures with letting students access unknown language to help with receptive skills. Productive skills and teaching requires accuracy- correct usage if grammar and fluency-ability to speak without stopping to think. We can use the study phase for accuracy and the activate phase for fluency
