Learning the qualities, and roles of teachers helps me quantify and imitate what I’ve observed successful teachers do. I tend to be a Manager/Controller, but I was happy to receive so many other techniques to practice. I especially appreciated the qualities that a good teacher should possess, that of kindness, patience, loving to teach, and enthusiasm. These are qualities that inspire me, and that I find most of my students are drawn to. I also found the lesson on learners to be hugely helpful. Knowing what to expect from various age groups will help me anticipate challenges. I believe having the language levels detailed out will give me direction on what areas students will need to improve in next. I was glad to read that it would not be good to give an advanced student unnecessarily basic exercises, which could come across as belittling. I’ve been in class situations where such exercises were given to the students and it was never effective. I found the list of reasons students take language classes useful because I’ve been in classes where the teacher did not provide good reasons for why a student should want to attend the class. A good list of reasons why one should enjoy taking an English class can kindle motivation in students.
