This unit was an overview of the receptive language skills, listening and reading. In addition to the receptive language skills, there are the productive language skills, speaking and writing. The unit started off by differentiating between reading/listening for a purpose, and reading/listening for entertainment. The unit then differentiated between key receptive language skills, such as skimming, scanning, predicting, and listening/reading for detailed information. As someone who learned Chinese as a second language while in university, I understand the importance of the receptive skills, and the importance of practicing reading/listening in the classroom.
