This unit explores the different techniques required to manage an ESL class room, and focuses primarily on how the use of body language and tone of voice can affect the rapport between teachers and students.
Further to this, the unit explains the importance of classroom placement, management, and prevention of problem behaviours, while stressing the balance of teacher talk time and student talk time during each lesson. We also explored the benefits and detriments of different groupings and independent working of students.
My main takeaways from this unit are that the ability to build a strong rapport and gain the respect of your students is imperative if you are to be successful as an ESL teacher. Also crucial to your success is the ability to identify and manage problem behaviour while implementing strategies to prevent further issues.
