This unit is a counterpart to Unit 11 which discussed receptive skills - listening and reading. It suggested methodologies for teaching productive skills - writing and speaking - and outlined lessons and classroom activities which might be used to help students to speak and write.
Various elements of writing which I had not considered before - for instance the difficulty for students from language backgrounds which use a different alphabet - were important for me to think about. The importance of controlling activities for greater accuracy and letting the students control activities which focus on fluency is also essential to teaching speaking skills.
