Unit 13 was about pronunciation focusing on intonation, stress, the phonetic alphabet and articulation. There was a lot I had to learn in this unit, as I was not familiar with the phonemic alphabet it took some time getting used to. The section on intonation was interesting, as a native English speaker it comes naturally but seeing broken down was very informative. The example using three different intonations on the word “hello” highlighted how important it is expressing mood and meaning. The same can be said about the stress section, in that it comes naturally, but one sentence can change meaning many times depending on what word is stressed so it's important that students know this so they can better communicate what they mean. The places and manner of articulation were interesting to go through and think about how you are articulating each letter and what category it falls into; plosive, bilabial, nasal, palatal, etc.
