In Unit 2, parts of speech I was taught about the characteristics of words forming a sentence and their relation to each other. Starting with nouns, I have learned about the different nouns available, how they should be written (whether they start with a capital ´letter or not) and can be replaced (by pronouns). These nouns can be preceded by articles (definite, indefinite or zero articles) as well as adjectives (or followed by the latter). Additionally, adjectives can be comparative or superlative to the noun. On the other hand, adverbs typically describe the meaning of the verb. The verb is the action or state carried out/being by/of the noun/pronoun. In this unit, we were taught that there are many forms, including infinitive, past participle, the simple past and the base of the verbs. Additionally, we have learned that the gerund is a verb +ing but is used as a noun.
Last but not least, I read about prepositions and conjunctions both used to link words/groups of words in a clause. They have different functions and are categorised according their effect.
I look forward to teaching parts of speech to students very soon!
