I really enjoyed this last unit as it began with ways to build rapport between teacher and students, and between the students themselves. I liked how it wasn’t even a part of the “warmer” activities, since the course book would not be used at this time. I feel this area takes a lot of pressure off of me and makes the students feel relaxed. It creates a pressure free environment from the outset. The warmup excercises were great suggestions as well. Games are a great way to refocus the mind and makes the getting into the English learning mind set less burdensome. The unit showed how to deal with students of various levels in the classroom and I want to implement the technique of having additional work, such as crossword puzzles for faster students, which would allow slower ones to feel less time pressure while they complete the main work. I am not sure what the classroom size will be when I teach, but the ways to handle large groups was most helpful, especially pair work or group work. This unit also mentioned why some revert to their L1 language, and how to kindly deal with that. Speaking of kindness, the section on helping reluctant students will be especially helpful where I hope to teach, as the culture is very soft spoken. The section on listening activities was good for me, as I have a tough time understanding languages I am learning when I hear the words from native speakers. I think both my students and I myself will benefit from this information. The section mentioned not to neglect this important area of training. This course has been great!
