Unit 9 went into details of lesson planning, giving a basic overview and an example, as well as having me try to piece together a couple of lesson plans based on a collection of worksheets. Lesson planning has never been my strong suit as a teacher – when I started my job in JET my predecessor left me a notebook full of his lesson plans. These were just a couple notes of what activities he wanted to do and a list of materials needed. This was the base from which I started building my own lesson plans, though after a year of doing the job I found myself strictly adhering to the textbook via the Japanese style of teaching and repeating the same activities for each new year of students. Somewhere along the way, I stopping making lesson plans all together. I would like to correct this, and that was part of my impetus for taking this course. Hopefully I will be able to continue to use lesson plans in a similar style to this as I continue my teaching career.
