This unit is on how to organize and run a classroom to create the most conducive environment for learning possible. The lesson allows great flexibility to the teacher regarding desk arrangement and physical positioning of the teacher. I benefited from the psychology behind the various arrangements and positioning as well as the suggestions on when to pick which. For example, row placement of desks for large classes, but perhaps horseshoe placement for small classes. The lesson mentioned specific ways to keep the teacher talk time to a minimum, such as preparing well with carefully worded instructions given in language below the level being taught. I really benefited from that because I tend to talk a lot and am constantly working on simplifying my information. I especially benefited from the unit instruction on how to maintain discipline while building rapport. That list of ways to stop problems from arising such as never making threats you cannot carry out and never losing your temper were excellent as I have seen these snares enacted by teachers I have had in the past and nothing destroys respect for the teacher more quickly then those pitfalls. I tend to want everyone to get along and be everyone’s friend, so I appreciated the suggestions on controlling behavioral problems from the outset such as acting right away and asking others for suggestions.
