In this unit, I learned about the many methodologies that have been used historically in ESL teaching. I was introduced to a method of teaching that splits lessons into three parts - Engage, Study, and Activate. I was presented with numerous examples of each for all levels of language learning.
This was useful for me because I was able to imagine myself in the classroom and I was able to think back to my previous experience as a teacher in Argentina. I was able to think about which activities I would use for those students and how I might change my lesson plan for higher level students.
The lesson then introduced a number of ideas about correcting students. These are very important because I have noted that in my own language learning - French and Spanish - it is important to strike a balance between completion and accuracy and not to hamper the development of the language learner by correcting too quickly or too often.
