This lesson was an overview of the past tense in the English language. Similar to the present tense, the past tense in English has four main categories: past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. Similar to the present tense unit. My main takeaway from this unit was the way in which simple clues can be used to identify tense. For past simple, you simply add "d" or "ed" to the verb (if it is in the affirmative), though it is important to note here that there are numerous examples of verbs that have an irregular past simple form. For past continuous, identifying the word "was/were" before the -ing form of the verb is key. For past perfect, the word "had" before the verb is the marker. Lastly, for the past perfect continuous form, the phrase "had been" typically comes before the verb.
