In the unit "Teaching Pronunciation and Phonology" we discussed ways and methods to develop pronunciation. There are several elements to forming sounds, such as the place of articulation using the specking organs, the amount of air used, and the use or lack of use of the vocal chords in creating vibration. Another way to develop fluency and accuracy in speech is by working on correct intonation, as this can change the meaning of a sentence when misplaced. This unit presented a full explanation and exploration of phonics. These are symbols used to represent sounds. When using phonics, words are cut into sound syllables and each sound is the represented by a symbol from the phonic alphabet. By incorporating phonics in the classroom, the teacher can help students to improve their pronunciation.
