This section covered pronunciation and phonology and stressed the importance of teaching these concepts to students. This included the rise/fall pattern of speech when making a statement, as well as the fall/rise pattern that indicates the speaker is waiting for a reply. Other factors critical to correct pronunciation include stress and not stressing syllables of words. Also the phonetic alphabet was discussed and the importance of translating phonetics into the spoken word.
