This video unit showed two examples of actual class sessions, both with the same goals in mind and same students, but with the teacher teaching in different ways. The first video showed him teaching with a horrible attitude. He did not read the students or respond to their confusion, he got frustrated when they couldn't understand him, was not attentive during study time, and was not using proper methods for confirming homework answers (i.e. he was putting check marks instead of writing out the full sentence).
The second video showed the teacher being calm and happy, showing students he cared by showing up on time, introducing himself to them, and calling on them by name. He also did an excellent job with the engage stage, explaining the lesson point well before he moved on to the study stage, which helped a lot with making the study time more effective. Additionally, he fully explained the Activity stages, and tailored them so that all students could participate without standing around.
The first video was so hard to watch, because the teacher was having such a bad attitude. This really opened my eyes to how much a teacher's attitude, in addition to flexible teaching style, affects the classroom.
