This section outlined basic foreign language class formats and has given me insight into the most effective ways to organize class sessions to achieve the students' goals. I was really reminded of a French teacher I had in high school who led incredibly dynamic and educational lessons. I can recall specific examples of activities he used during the engage, study, and activate phases. In particular, he used elicitive questions frequently during the study phase, and would create exercises for the activation stage based on the each student's knowledge, pairing students together based on their proficiency. This unit paints a clear picture of what a good language class looks like-- lots of student talk time, diverse activities that include students of all levels and learning styles, and clear phases that emphasize the lesson at hand in a variety of different contexts.
