As a teacher in the United States, I have worked in many school environments. At each location, the perceptions of using textbooks and teacher created materials differed. Any seasoned teacher will agree with the contents of this unit. Textbooks should just be one of many resources that are used to plan lessons. Unfortunately, many new teachers don't have the confidence to deter from the textbook. Additionally, teacher created materials take a lot of time to prepare. However, anyone who has seen the difference that these materials make in student learning knows that the extra effort is worth it. I had trouble answering #3, because I feel that all of the things listed can be true for materials that are created properly.
