I agree that maintaining discipline is a key component to teaching. Having the room arranged in a way that is suitable to the class is quite helpful. I find that having them grouped at tables is helpful as they can work and help each other when needed. Eye contact and gestures help lessons move along. Giving instructions needs to be worked in with student responses and using a white board situation is really helpful to get focus on lesson. Rapport with the students as well as students rapport with each other is important. Everyone needs to get along and feel cared for at the same time. Being able to help others and know you can be helped will build that.
