Intonation is generally considered to be the variation in the volume and pitch in a whole sentence, whereas stress is more concerned with the individual words.Intonation carries the message in a sentence. It is also fundamental in the expression of emotions or feelings, e.g: sadness,happiness,
dis-belief, un-certainity e.t.c.The strong part is the stressed word, or word that bears the principal emphasis in the sentence.Only syllables are stressed,not the vowels or consonants.
