In this unit I learned about the receptive skills reading and listening. It was very interesting to learn about the purpose or motivations for reading and listening. Those are for a purpose and for entertainment. The unit says these are wide-ranging reasons but I felt it was pretty accurate for what it encompassed. This unit also taught me the difference between skimming and scanning. For the longest time I used those two words interchangeably not realizing there was a difference between the two. The unit also showed me some more details on how to enhance the student’s receptive skills. It just makes me more aware of the effect each phase of an ESA lesson has on student learning.
