Unit 12 focuses on teaching productive skills (speaking and writing). It explains the reasons for communicating with others. The differences between accuracy and fluency activities and the importance of each is explained. Speaking activities in the classroom include; controlled activities, guided activities, and creative communication. How to encourage interaction is explained. An example of a typical free/creative speaking activity lesson including the engage, study and activate stage is explained. Guidelines for before, during and after the lesson are also included. Writing skills are then discussed, including; handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation, and creative writing. An example of a typical creative writing activity lesson including the engage, study and activate stages is given. The unit then explains some games in the classroom that students might be able to play.
