Unit 10 covered video lessons. We were given two video lesson examples of an English language class with the same teacher and same students. In both lessons we saw practical application of much of the unit information we have learnt so far. The lesson structure of the second lesson was a straight arrow lesson, where the teacher managed to engage the students, establish good rapport with them and encouraged them to participate. He explained the activities well and elicited answers in a friendly and helpful way. The first lesson skipped over the engage phase and went straight into elicitation of answers in the study phase. In this lesson, the teacher’s attitude was short and condescending. The students were often confused and as a result struggled with the lesson and felt intimidated about participating. These lessons showed a practical example of how implementing the lessons in this course can make for a more enjoyable classroom experience and enhance the learning environment for the students.
