Unit 9 focused on lesson planning. It began with a debate over whether we should plan lessons and explained lesson planning as: an aid to planning, a working document and a record. Then it was explained how a lesson plan should be written down and be organised. It was also explained what should be included in a lesson plan, including; learner objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, anticipated problems (for the students and the teacher), procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, date/time, and teacher’s and observer’s names. An example of a lesson plan document was given relating to a lesson on animals. A blank lesson plan document was also provided. Monitoring your lessons and a self evaluation form were provided. It was then explained how to plan a sequence of lessons, including; flexibility, goals, revision, and variety/balance. Task materials were given including a questionnaire about places you have been and things you have done, and grammar relating to present perfect simple experiences. Further exercises were given relating to the grammar of present perfect.
